Linux.com was owned by SourceForge, Inc. till recently. Linux.com had been reported to have registered 25 million hits in the first month of its operation. On March 3, 2009, the management of Linux.com changed hands from SourceForge to the Linux Foundation. SourceForge would continue to sell advertisements for Linux.com but the content would com from the Linux Foundation.
The noteworthy aspect of this change is that SorceForge appear to be guided by their holistic concern for Linux rather than short-term financial gains. As owners of Linux.com, they could have gone for highest bidder, but they chose the Linux Foundation, who have the best credentials for nurturing the development and growth of Linux.
Linux.com will surely be one of the most watched web site in coming days.
