Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) has made the difference in the way people use computers. Earlier the users were dictated by manufacturers to use computers in the way they deemed proper and the way they made proprietary software. FLOSS changed that. Software source code was made available. The users could study and modify the available software packages as per their requirements. They could participate in the future development of packages in the areas of their interest. Also, there are safeguards that a FLOSS package stays free and is not re-packaged as a proprietary software package by some unscrupulous supplier.
Software Freedom Day (SFD) is celebrated on the third Saturday in the month of September every year. This year, the SFD falls on the September 19, 2009. FLOSS developers and users can celebrate SFD by organizing functions and parties. Some suggestions are available at the SFD web-site
