Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx Linux released

Canonical released their popular Linux distribution Ubuntu version 10.04 LTS, code named Lucid Lynx, on Thursday, April 29, 2010. This is a Long Term Support (LTS) version, which will be supported for three years after the date of release. Ubuntu Linux has been coming in three forms for last few releases and this one is no different. There is Ubuntu 10.04 LTS for Desktop and Laptop , Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Netbook Edition and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server Edition.

At the time of release, the core versions are as follows. The Linux kernel is 2.6.32. The GNOME version is 2.30. The X.org server is version 1.7.6 based on X11R7.5. The Firefox version is 3.6.3. OpenOffice is 3.2.0 and GIMP is 2.6.8. MySQL, PHP, Python and Pidgin versions are 5.1.43, 5.3.2, 2.6.5 and 2.6.6 respectively.

The new Ubuntu version has a new look and feel in terms of color combinations and boots faster. For those who want to be using the latest versions of Linux-based software, Lucid Lynx is a must install.
